Mount Shasta, located in Shasta-Trinity National Forest, is an amazing site to see. With a height of 14,179 feet, it was clearly visible to us while we were on the road over 100 miles away. Even in the middle of summer it is a snow-capped gem that overshadows everything else in its vicinity. At the foot of the mountain sits Mount Shasta the city, a quaint town of about 3,400 people who get to enjoy a magnificent view of the mountain every single day.

Pretty flowers, pretty trees, and pretty girlfriend :) |

Getting closer |

After about a 2 mile hike and a 1,200 foot climb, this is as close as we get. I wanted to go all the way to the top, but a reluctant girlfriend and my lack of ice-picking expertise prevented me from doing so... |

I can climb any mountain! I wish...

Despite my shattered dreams, we are still a happy couple |

The cute little town of Mount Shasta, CA |
Once Tamara and I finished our hike and drove down the mountain and back to town, we made what was without a doubt the best decision of the trip so far: we bought sleeping pads from the local camping store! Though barely 2 inches thick, these pads have made sleeping in a tent almost as comfortable as sleeping in your own bed!
After Mt Shasta we drove 150 miles through the rest of California and into Oregon to get to Crater Lake. Here are some pictures from the drive:

"Oregon Welcomes You" - We made it! 2 states down, 8 to go! |

Mt. Shasta from over 50 miles away. She looks like she is right next to us! |

Upper Klamath Lake. Orgeon is filled to the brim with beautiful lakes, rivers, streams, and forests |

To a city-dweller this picture of a speeding river taken about 20 miles south of Crater Lake is COOL. To an Oregonian it is as common as a gas station |
